The World Health Organization reported that "an estimated 12.6 million people died as a result of living or working in an unhealthy environment in 2012, nearly 1 in 4 of total global deaths". Air, water and soil pollution were the significant risk factors, and there is an urgent need for effective remediation strategies. But tackling this problem is not easy; there are many different types of pollutants, often widely dispersed, difficult to locate and identify, and in many cases cost-effective clean-up techniques are lacking. Biology offers enormous potential as a tool to develop microbial and plant-based solutions to remediate and restore our environment. Advances in synthetic biology are unlocking this potential enabling the design of tailor-made organisms for bioremediation. In this article, we showcase examples of xenobiotic clean-up to illustrate current achievements and discuss the limitations to advancing this promising technology to make real-world improvements in the remediation of global pollution.<br />Death is inevitable, but healthy ageing is possible with proper nutrition and health care. The prevalence of malnutrition was higher amonended.Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA) is an ANCA-associated small-vessels vasculitis characterized by hypereosinophilia and eosinophilic asthma. EGPA with life-threatening organ involvement, particularly cardiac and central nervous system (CNS), is a medical emergency requiring immediate immunosuppression. We describe a 58-year-old patient with a history of chronic rhinosinusitis and eosinophilic asthma, who presented with fever, hypereosinophilia and systemic inflammation. Diagnostic workup identified a cardiac mass, CNS vasculitis, CNS embolization and Staphylococcus aureus in blood cultures. Due to rapid normalization of blood cultures, the intracardiac mass was not considered as primarily infective. Active EGPA with cardiac and CNS involvement complicated by a secondary S. aureus sepsis was diagnosed. In order to not negatively impact antibacterial immunity in active EGPA, antibiotic therapy was combined with Benralizumab, which was well tolerated and EGPA resolved rapidly. GL1 can gradually increase its pigment content and turn into pale-green leaf when shading under sunshade net (referred as Re-GL1). The mechanisms that cause leaf color variation are complicated and are not still unclear. Here, we have used a label-free comparative proteomics to investigate differences in proteins abundance and analyze the specific biological process associated with mechanisms of leaf color variation in GL1. A total of 245 and 160 proteins with different abundance were identified in GL1 vs WT and GL1 vs Re-GL1, respectively. Functional classification analysis revealed that the proteins with different abundance mainly related to photosynthesis, heat shock proteins, ribosome proteins, and oxidation-reduction. The proteins that the most significantly contributed to leaf color variation were photosynthetic proteins of PSII and PSI, d as a valuable resource for signal transaction of chloroplast.The application of silkworm hybrids have promoted the innovation and development of agricultural technology, but the mechanism of heterosis in silkworm has not been explained clearly. In this study, the heterosis of silkworm in the aspects of body weight, silk gland and cocoon weight was investigated by means of silkworm hybridization and multi-omics approaches, including transcriptome and proteome. The results showed that heterosis of silkworm body weight, silk gland and cocoon weight was overdominant, but only part of genes and proteins were overdominant, and most of genes and proteins were non-additive. Combined analysis obtained six up-regulated genes and four down-regulated genes that were consistent both in transcriptome and proteome. Gene functional enrichment analysis indicated that most up-regulated genes and proteins were mostly related to metabolism, which led to accelerated metabolism and protein synthesis and contributing to improved heterosis. The up-regulation of 6-phosphate glucose dehydrogenase (G6PDH), phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP) and sHSP20.4, which are involved in metabolism, might be related to silk gland heterosis. SIGNIFICANCE A combination of transcriptomic and proteomic analysis was used to understand the molecular mechanism of silkworm heterosis. We found that the phenotypic traits of silkworm are overdominant, while the analysis of transcriptome and proteome showed that only part of genes and proteins were overdominant, and most of genes and proteins were non-additive. Some of the genes had unique expression in F1, which was speculated that genes under heterozygous condition may result in rearrangement and cause metabolic changes in the hybrids. Those both up-regulated in transcriptomic and proteomic analysis were found to be involved in various metabolic processes, so as to accelerate metabolism and protein synthesis, thus exhibiting heterosis.
