With CeO2(110)-Ov and Ni-CeO2(110)-2Ov, our DFT calculations suggest that the first hydrogenation step is the rate-determining step with a barrier of 0.43 and 0.40 eV, respectively. For Ni-CeO2(110)-Ov, the reaction is shown to be controlled by the H2 dissociation with a barrier of 0.41 eV. These barriers are significantly lower than that (about 0.7 eV) on CeO2(111), explaining the experimentally observed higher catalytic efficiency of the (110) facet of ceria. The change of the rate-determining step is attributed to the different electronic properties of Ce in the Ce/O FLPs - the Ce f states closer to the Fermi level not only facilitate the heterolytic dissociation of H2 but also lead to a higher barrier of acetylene hydrogenation.As liver cancer (LC) is the sixth most commonly diagnosed malignancy, it is necessary to elucidate the molecular mechanisms responsible for LC progression. MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) play crucial roles in tumor progression by regulating target gene expression. The present study assessed miRNA‑4730 expression and function in LC. The effects of miR‑4730 overexpression were examined in LC cell lines, and the target genes of miR‑4730 were evaluated using microarray analysis and TargetScan data. In addition, the association between miR‑4730 expression in tissue samples and the prognosis of 70 patients with LC was evaluated. miR‑4730 expression was suppressed in LC tissues and cell lines. miR‑4730 overexpression suppressed cell proliferation and cell cycle progression and promoted apoptosis. High mobility group A1 (HMGA1) was revealed as the direct target of miR‑4730 using luciferase reporter assay, and the inhibition of downstream integrin‑linked kinase (ILK) expression and Akt or glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) phosphorylation was confirmed. The lower expression of miR‑4730 in tissue samples was significantly associated with a worse recurrence‑free survival of patients with LC. On the whole, miR‑4730 suppressed tumor progression by directly targeting HMGA1 and inhibiting the ILK/Akt/GSK3β pathway. miR‑4730 thus has potential for use as a prognostic marker and may prove to be a therapeutic target for miRNA‑based therapies.
Digital communication has emerged as a major source of scientific and medical information for health care professionals. There is a need to set up an effective and reliable methodology to assess and monitor the quality of content that is published on the internet.
The aim of this project was to develop content quality guidelines for Neurodiem, an independent scientific information platform dedicated to neurology for health care professionals and neuroscientists. These content quality guidelines are intended to be used by (1) content providers as a framework to meet content quality standards and (2) reviewers as a tool for analyzing and scoring quality of content.
Specific scientific criteria were designed using a 5-point scale to measure the quality of curated and original content published on the website for Summaries, (1) source reliability and topic relevance for neurologists, (2) structure, and (3) scientific and didactic value; for Congress highlights, (1) relevance of congress selection, (2) congrmplementation of the content quality guidelines that was maintained over time (15-25/25).
Our findings support that content quality guidelines provide both (1) a reliable framework for generating independent high-quality content that addresses the educational needs of neurologists and (2) are an objective evaluation tool for improving and maintaining scientific quality level. The use of these criteria and this scoring system could serve as a standard and reference to build an editorial strategy and review process for any medical news or platforms.

As the olfactory bulb (OB) is one of the first regions involved by pathology and may represent an early disease stage, we specifically aimed to evaluate the contribution of OB pathology to olfactory decline in cognitively normal aged individuals without parkinsonism or dementia. This clinicopathological study correlates OB tau, amyloid β (Aβ) and α-synuclein (αSyn) pathology densities and whole brain pathology load to olfactory identification function as measured with the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT) and clinical data measured proximate to death in a large autopsy study including 138 cases considered non-demented controls during life. Tau pathology was frequently observed in the OB (95% of cases), while both Aβ (27% of cases) and αSyn (20% of cases) OB pathologies were less commonly observed. A weak correlation was only observed between OB tau and olfactory performance, but when controlled for age, neither OB tau, Aβ or αSyn significantly predict olfactory performance. Moreover, whole brain tau and αSyn pathology loads predicted olfactory performance; however, only αSyn pathology loads survived age correction. In conclusion, OB tau pathology is frequently observed in normally aging individuals and increases with age but does not appear to independently contribute to age-related olfactory impairment suggesting that further involvement of the brain seems necessary to contribute to age-related olfactory decline.This study aims to examine whether adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with oral health conditions (denture use, difficulty in chewing, and edentulism) among middle-aged and older adults in China and if gender and adulthood education moderate the associations. Data were obtained from the 2014 and 2018 surveys from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (N = 17,091) and logistic regressions were carried out. Results show that childhood hunger (OR = 1.12), loneliness (OR = 1.10) and family relations (OR = 1.07) were significantly associated with higher odds of denture use and there were significant associations between hunger (OR = 1.16) and difficulty in chewing. For the female subsample, education significantly moderated the adverse effect of childhood hunger on denture use and difficulty in chewing. Findings suggest that ACEs have long-lasting impacts on oral health conditions in later life and adulthood education might offer critical resources for females, helping them buffer the detrimental health impacts of ACEs.tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (tBuOOH) is a common intermediate in the oxidation of organic compounds that needs to be accurately quantified in complex gas mixtures for the development of chemical kinetic models of low temperature combustion. This work presents a combined theoretical and experimental investigation on the synchrotron-based VUV single photon ionization of gas-phase tBuOOH in the 9.0 - 11.0 eV energy range, including dissociative ionization processes. Computations consist of the determination of the structures, vibrational frequencies and the energetics of neutral and ionic tBuOOH. The Franck-Condon spectrum for the tBuOOH+ (X+) + e- ← tBuOOH (X) + hν transition is computed, where special treatment is undertaken because of the flexibility of tBuOOH, in particular regarding the OOH group. Through comparison of the experimental mass-selected threshold photoelectron spectra with explicitly correlated coupled cluster calculations and Franck-Condon simulations that account for the flexibility of the molecule, an estimation of the ionization energy is given. The appearance energy of the only fragment observed within the above-mentioned energy range, identified as the tert-butyl C4H9+, is also reported. Finally, the signal branching ratio between the parent and the fragment ions is provided as a function of photon energy, essential to quantify tBuOOH in gas-phase oxidation/combustion experiments via advanced mass spectrometry techniques.In this study, atomic force microscopy (AFM), microtomography (MCT-2D and MCT-3D) and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) were used to generate parameters of the microstructure of the hoof capsule of pigmented and partial albino buffaloes. Seventy-two digits of adult pigmented buffaloes and 16 of partial albino buffaloes were used and equally divided into thoracic and pelvic limbs and medial and lateral claws. Fragments of 10 mm × 10 mm of the dorsal wall, abaxial wall and pre-bulbar sole were collected. The parametric assumptions were tested using a Shapiro-Wilk test (normality). The independent t-test was used to compare the means at a 5% significance level. AFM demonstrated that the hoof surface of pigmented buffaloes presented with higher average surface roughness (Ra) and root mean square roughness (Rms) (p  less then  0.05) than the hoof surface of partial albino buffaloes. MCT-2D revealed that pigmented buffaloes had extra tubular keratin with a higher density than intratubular keratin. No pores were observed in the hoof capsule of the buffalo digits. Recently, the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‑1 (TIMP‑1) was reported to promote cancer cell migration and metastasis, which is contrary to its anticancer role as an inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase. Moreover, CAF‑derived TIMP‑1 is reported to regulate CAF activity. In the present study, we investigated the effect of TIMP‑1 on colon cancer cell migration in vitro. The TIMP‑1 secretion levels from the CAFs and cancer cell lines were comparatively measured to determine the main source of TIMP‑1. Furthermore, the effect of CSI on TIMP‑1 secretion was investigated using the Transwell co‑culture system. Cancer cell migration was evaluated using the wound‑healing assay. The results demonstrated that TIMP‑1 promoted the migration of LoVo cells, a colon cancer cell line, whereas TIMP‑1 neutralization inhibited the enhanced migration. The TIMP‑1 levels secreted from the cancer cells were approximately 10 times less than those secreted from the CAFs. TIMP‑1 secretion was higher in CAFs co‑cultured with cancer cells than in monocultured CAFs. Furthermore, the migration of LoVo cells increased upon co‑culturing with the CAFs. TIMP‑1 neutralization partially inhibited this enhanced migration. These results suggest that CAFs are the primary source of TIMP‑1 and that the TIMP‑1 production is enhanced through CSI in the tumor microenvironment, which promotes cancer cell migration.
