Bad side involving washing coffee pods: Investigation of experience laundry soap capsules in children.
Neonates with CHD are at increased risk of developing necrotising enterocolitis due to mesenteric hypoperfusion. Necrotising enterocolitis results in repeated feed interruptions contributing to poor growth during the early post-operative phase. Poor weight gain and longer hospital stay are risk factors for death in neonates with CHD. Abdominal radiography is used as a diagnostic tool for necrotising enterocolitis; however, its utility is limited in the early stages of necrotising enterocolitis when pneumatosis intestinalis is absent. Calprotectin is a neutrophil activation biomarker, and elevated levels are evident in inflammatory diseases such as necrotising enterocolitis. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between faecal calprotectin concentration and gut inflammation in neonates with CHD. This prospective single-centre study recruited newly diagnosed term patients with duct-dependent CHD between March 2018 and March 2019. Faecal calprotectin concentrations were measured in post-surgical patients using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods. A total of 30 patients were included in the analysis. Calprotectin concentration for patients who developed necrotising enterocolitis was 3528 µg/g compared with 390 µg/g without, compared with 1339 µg/g in patients with suspected necrotising enterocolitis (p = 0.0001). Patients with suspected necrotising enterocolitis had a significantly longer length of hospital stay, on average 18 days longer compared to patients without necrotising enterocolitis (p = 0.03). BTK activity Faecal calprotectin concentrations may reflect severity of gut inflammation in neonates with CHD. Suspected necrotising enterocolitis contributes to longer days nil by mouth and an increase in length of hospital stay.OBJECTIVE To determine the impacts of using a whole grain food definition on measurement of whole grain intake compared with calculation of total grams of intake irrespective of the source. DESIGN The Australian whole grain database was expanded to identify foods that comply with the Healthgrain whole grain food definition (≥30 % whole grains on a dry weight basis, whole grain ingredients exceeds refined grain and meeting accepted standards for healthy foods based on local regulations). Secondary analysis of the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS) 2011-2012 dietary intake data included calculation of whole grain intakes based on intake from foods complying with the Healthgrain definition. These were compared with intake values where grams of whole grain in any food had been included. SETTING Australia. PARTICIPANTS Australians (≥2 years) who participated in the NNPAS 2011-2012 (n 12 153). RESULTS Following expansion of the whole grain database, 214 of the 609 foods containing any amount of whole grain were compliant with the Healthgrain definition. Significant mean differences (all P less then 0·05) of 2·84-6·25 g/d of whole grain intake (5·91-9·44 g/d energy adjusted) were found when applying the Healthgrain definition in comparison with values from foods containing any whole grain across all age groups. CONCLUSIONS Application of a whole grain food definition has substantial impact on calculations of population whole grain intakes. While use of such definitions may prove beneficial in settings such as whole grain promotion, the underestimation of total intake may impact on identification of any associations between whole grain intake and health outcomes. The General Medical Council has introduced a generic professional capabilities framework. It includes the need to develop the professional values, actions and aspirations fundamental to becoming a 'dedicated doctor'. The history of psychiatry has potential to facilitate this learning, both by an understanding of content and the ability to think historically.OBJECTIVE This study uses psychological reactance theory as a framework for designing effective emergency preparedness messages. Psychological reactance is the motivational state that occurs when individuals perceive their freedom to be threatened. From the standpoint of persuasive message design, reactance is an undesirable outcome that should be avoided whenever possible. METHODS Participants (N = 174) were randomly assigned to view 1 of 2 emergency preparedness messages (choice-enhancing language ["the choice is yours"] vs choice-restricting language ["you must"]) in a between-subjects-posttest-only online survey experiment. RESULTS Structural equation modeling revealed that choice-restricting language resulted in greater freedom threat and subsequent reactance. Reactance resulted in a diminished attitude and subsequent intention to prepare an emergency kit. CONCLUSION Public health practitioners would benefit from the inclusion of choice-enhancing language in their public communications, alongside the exclusion of choice-restricting language. Pretesting of messages is recommended to avoid eliciting reactance and subsequent boomerang effects.Fiber length has a strong impact on the mechanical properties of composite materials. It is one of the most important quantitative features in characterizing microstructures for understanding the material performance. Studies conducted to determine fiber length distribution have primarily focused on sample preparation and fiber dispersion. However, the subsequent image analysis is frequently performed manually or semi-automatically, which either requires careful sample preparation or manual intervention in the image analysis and processing. In this article, an image processing and analysis method has been developed based on medial axis transformation via the multi-stencil fast marching method for fiber length measurements on acquired microscopy images. The developed method can be implemented fully automatically and without any user induced delays. This method offers high efficiency, sub-pixel accuracy, and excellent statistical representativity.OBJECTIVES Family caregivers of people with dementia can experience loss and grief before death. We hypothesized that modifiable factors indicating preparation for end of life are associated with lower pre-death grief in caregivers. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING Caregivers of people with dementia living at home or in a care home. PARTICIPANTS In total, 150 caregivers, 77% female, mean age 63.0 (SD = 12.1). Participants cared for people with mild (25%), moderate (43%), or severe dementia (32%). MEASUREMENTS Primary outcome Marwit-Meuser Caregiver Grief Inventory Short Form (MMCGI-SF). BTK activity We included five factors reflecting preparation for end of life (1) knowledge of dementia, (2) social support, (3) feeling supported by healthcare providers, (4) formalized end of life documents, and (5) end-of-life discussions with the person with dementia. We used multiple regression to assess associations between pre-death grief and preparation for end of life while controlling for confounders. We repeated this analysis with MMCGI-SF subscales ("personal sacrifice burden"; "heartfelt sadness"; "worry and felt isolation").
