This paper provides an inventory of experimental evaluations of road safety measures. 24 different road safety measures have been evaluated experimentally. More than one experiment was reported for 8 road safety measures; for the other 16 only a single experiment was found. With few exceptions, experiments find no effect on accidents of the measures subjected to experiments. Most of the exceptions are due either to failure of randomisation or refer to measures whose effects tend to erode as they become more commonly used. Thus, the effects found in initial experiments with daytime running lights and high-mounted stop lamps have gradually eroded as more cars got these systems. Driver training is one of the few road safety measures for which more than one experiment has been carried out. One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures have unique surface effects, easily regulated size, good agglutination of the substrate, and other distinct properties amenable to the field of energy storage and conversion. Therefore, 1D nanostructures could further improve the characteristic properties of MOFs, and it is of great importance for practical applications to control the size and morphological characteristics of MOFs. The electrochemical application of 1D MOFs is mainly discussed in this review, including energy storage applications in supercapacitors and batteries and energy conversion applications in catalysis. In addition, various synthesis strategies for 1D MOFs and their architectures are presented.Over the past few years, development of wearable devices has gained increasing momentum. Notably, the demand for stretchable strain sensors has significantly increased due to many potential and emerging applications such as human motion monitoring, prosthetics, robotic systems, and touch panels. Recently, hydrogels have been developed to overcome the drawbacks of the elastomer-based wearable strain sensors, caused by insufficient biocompatibility, brittle mechanical properties, complicated fabrication process, as the hydrogels can provide a combination of various exciting properties such as intrinsic electrical conductivity, suitable mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. There are numerous research works reported in the literature which consider various aspects as preparation approaches, design strategies, properties control, and applications of hydrogel-based strain sensors. This article aims to present a review on this exciting topic with a new insight on the hydrogel-based wearable strain sensors in terms of their features, strain sensory performance, and prospective applications. In this respect, we first briefly review recent advances related to designing the materials and the methods for promoting hydrogels' intrinsic features. Then, strain (both tensile and pressure) sensing performance of prepared hydrogels is critically studied, and alternative approaches for their high-performance sensing are proposed. Subsequently, this review provides several promising applications of hydrogel-based strain sensors, including bioapplications and human-machine interface devices. The epigenome may reflect Parkinson's disease (PD) risk, which serves as a point of convergence of genetic and environmental risk factors. Here, we investigate whether blood DNA methylation (DNAm) markers are associated with PD risk.
We selected 12 plasma proteins known as predictors of cardiovascular conditions and mortality to evaluate their effects on PD risk in a case-control study. In lieu of protein level measures, however, we assessed the influence of their DNAm surrogates. Primary analysis was restricted to 569 PD patients and 238 controls with DNAm data available. Using univariate logistic regression, we evaluated associations between the DNAm markers and PD.
Of the 12 DNAm surrogates, the most robustly associated were DNAm EFEMP-1 and DNAm CD56, which were associated with PD with and without controlling for blood cell composition. DNAm EFEMP-1 was associated with a decreased risk of PD (OR=0.83 per SD, 95% CI=0.70, 0.98) whereas DNAm CD56 was associated with an increased risk of PD (OR=1.41, 95% CI=1.11, 1.79).

and purpose Naturopathic practitioners (NPs) in the United States (US) and Australia are consulted for the prevention and management of a range of health conditions, including cardiovascular disease (CVD). Despite this, little is known about how NPs approach the management of CVD risk factors. The aim of this study was to explore NPs approach to the care of people with CVD risk factors.
In 2018, Australian and US NPs were recruited via professional representative organisations. A survey was developed containing four domains; naturopathic approaches to the clinical management of CVD risk factors, communication and sharing of information; professional-client relationship factors; and demographic information. The data analysis was conducted using the appropriate statistical tests.
A total of 151 NPs completed the survey (Australia n=75, US n=76). NPs reported employing dietary, and multiple behavioural and natural product interventions to treat CVD risk factors. The most frequently recommended products by US and Australian NPs were fish oils (87%), magnesium (83%) and coenzyme Q10 (87%). Differences in what US and Australian NPs recommended were identified. NPs reported limited communication with medical doctors about their clients. NPs placed high importance on the relationship quality with their clients.
US and Australian NPs represent an aspect of primary care and disease prevention that warrants further research that evaluates the potential risks and benefits of NP care, and challenges and opportunities associated with NPs integration into the healthcare systems, for populations with CVD risk factors.

Theory and extant data support a robust link between body dissatisfaction and LOC eating behaviors in women. Ethnic identity may buffer this association, as the degree to which racially and ethnically diverse women identify with their ethnic group has been shown to decrease the relevancy of the Western culture body ideal, thereby decreasing disordered eating pathology. These associations have not been evaluated in African American men. The current study examined the link between body dissatisfaction and LOC eating frequency in 261 young African American men (1830 years old). Ethnic identity was evaluated as an independent variable and as a putative moderator. After adjusting for income, education, and body mass index, body dissatisfaction was significantly and positively associated with LOC eating frequency (p less then .001). Ethnic identity did not function as a significant moderator (p = .84) but was significantly and inversely associated with LOC eating frequency (p less then .001). Although longitudinal studies are needed, these data suggest that there may be multiple pathways through which young African American men engage in LOC eating. Similar to extant research with women and other ethnic groups, body dissatisfaction appears to play a role in the LOC eating of African American men. Additional research is needed to clarify the nature of the association between ethnic identity and LOC eating in this population.
Previously, we reported the octyl ester derivative of ginsenoside Rh2 (Rh2-O) had better antitumor and immunomodulatory effects than Rh2 in H22 tumor-bearing mice. Therefore, this study further explored the effects of Rh2-O on splenic lymphocytes in H22 tumor-bearing mice and the underlying mechanism.
Wild type and Tlr4
mice were selected to establish the H22 tumor-bearing mice model. After the treatment of Rh2-O (10mg/kg by gavage) for 15days, the sizes of tumor were measured. Subsequently, the splenic lymphocytes were isolated and the activities (eg. link3 cell proliferation, cytotoxicity and cytokine secretion) were evaluated. Then, the proteins and mRNA expression levels of TRAF6 and NF-ĸB p65 in splenic lymphocytes were examined.
The results showed that Rh2-O administration enhanced the proliferative capacity and cytotoxicity of splenic lymphocytes, and the effects were Tlr4-associated. Compared to WT mice, the up-regulation of cytokines secretion (eg. IFN-γ, IL-2 and IL-4) in isolated splenic lymphocytes after Rh2-O administration was lower in Tlr4
mice.
