As detailed in the methodology section, two specific news-related Turkish queries (“son dakika” and “haberler”) regularly channel millions of users to these outlets’ content everyday. Trending searches, on the other hand, are another substantial traffic source, although they change from one day to another. Today, journalism still survives in Turkey in a less centralized, much more fragmented, and almost wholly digital media landscape.
It is a non-political news video created by Demirören News Agency and shared on daily Hürriyet’s Facebook page, telling about an “engineering innovation” of a retired car mechanic in Istanbul. The most popular post, which received 119,053 interactions, was a tweet by the Group A outlet Cumhuriyet daily. Comparing the two groups’ total reach, Group A outlets penetrate 57.3% (33.5 million users) of Turkey’s online audience, while Group B outlets reached %81.8 (47.8 million users). As a result, we constructed the structured dataset of 84,430 entries that formed the basis of our analysis by capturing relevant data on the visibility of Turkish news outlets on Google’s search engine and Google News in November-December 2020. The last part discusses all the findings, provides analysis and actionable recommendations for the stakeholders, including donors and platforms, to support independent journalism in Turkey on the way to digital sustainability of the news ecosystem.
Half of the top ten newsbrands in the UK saw month-on-month audience growth in May. Of the four top ten newsbrands that saw a month-on-month fall in audience (BBC, Mirror, Manchester Evening News and Mail Online) none dropped by over 5%. The Telegraph website was the fastest-growing top ten newsbrand by audience size in September, according to Press Gazette’s ranking of the UK’s top 50 biggest names in news. Instead most of the top ten newsbrands saw audience falls, with three newsbrands recording double-digit month-on-month falls in audience. The Independent’s audience was down 16% to 19.4 million people, Mail Online’s audience was down 13% to 21.2 million people and Metro was down 12% to 17.4 million people.
The BBC operates several television channels in the United Kingdom and abroad. The BBC's international television news service, BBC World News, is broadcast throughout the world. The domestic services of the BBC are funded by the television licence[62] and not only operates BBC One and BBC Two, but also BBC Four, the BBC News, BBC Parliament and children's television channels CBBC and CBeebies. The international television broadcast services are operated by BBC Studios on a commercial subscription basis over cable and satellite services.
The daily Sözcü had the greatest number of new Facebook followers (81,800), while the annual growth rate was highest at the video-oriented Medyascope (45%). The report could not be possible without the European Commission’s financial support and the indispensable help from the IPI Vienna staff to whom we are grateful. Photographed by Matthew Joseph, the new scenarios also complement insight from Radiocentre’s latest research project Generation Audio, which identifies a new reason why people choose to listen to radio – to “Keep me company”. According to its website, The New York Times boasts over 10 million paid subscriptions across its digital and print publications. Its digital platforms average 123 million monthly visitors while its print editions reach more than 8.2 million adults.
1 the geographic distribution of each dimension for the most populated region of the country (i.e., Santiago). Note that most of the news outlets are located in the city center (Fig. 1(b)) and surrounded by very densely populated areas (Fig. 1(a)). 1(c) shows a difference in the income level between communes from East to West (which coincides with the popular perception). Finally, more populated and urbanized areas show a right-leaning political predominance.
Manchester Evening News (32% reach) was the best-ranked regional newsbrand in tenth place overall, while a number of US newsbrands featured among July’s top 50. Best-ranked among them was The New York Times (ranked 20, audience of 8.5 million people). Sky News was the only top ten newsbrand by audience size to see double-digit month-on-month growth in July, according to Press Gazette’s ranking of the UK’s top 50 biggest newsbrands. The BBC was once again the biggest newsbrand by audience (37.7 million visitors). It was followed by The Sun (27.7 million visitors, down 1%), The Mirror and Mail Online.
It was followed by The Mirror (24.1 million people, 48% reach) and Mail Online (24 million people, 48% reach). Among the whole list of top 50 sites, fastest-growing was Reach’s Edinburgh Live (3.3 million visitors, up 7% month-on-month), followed by Washington Post (3.9 million visitors, up 53%) and Women’s Health (3.3 million visitors, up 31%). Five of the top ten fastest growing sites were local (or sub-UK level) newsbrands - all owned by national and regional publishing giant Reach.
Overall, year-on-year traffic saw a slight boost with combined visits up 5% compared with June 2020. Of https://images.google.com.sv/url?q=https://jenkins-summers-2.blogbright.net/social-media-outlet-definition , 29 had year-on-year traffic increases, while 12 saw month-on-month gains. This month's data continues a strong run of growth for the Daily Mail and General Trust-owned brand which was July's fastest-growing site in the UK. The best-placed aggregator, DMGT-owned Newzit, ranked 13th with an audience of 14.5m people (29% reach). It was followed by Mail Online (1.8bn minutes) and The Guardian (838m minutes) in a top three unchanged from last month.
When it comes to engagement, the BBC was the most engaged-with news brand, with audiences spending 9.1bn minutes with its sites and apps in January. It was followed by Mail Online (1.9bn minutes), The Guardian (971m minutes) and The Sun (600m minutes). For our list, we used Ipsos’ ranking of the top 500 online brands and selected the 50 biggest which, in Press Gazette’s view, have a significant news or journalistic offering. The BBC as in past months ranked top for both minutes spent with its online content (8.4 billion) and for page views (5.2 billion). Over half of the newsbrands in our ranking saw more engagement in July with several seeing particularly large increases in engagement. The BBC scored best for engagement as audiences spent a total of ten billion minutes with its content in September, placing it well ahead of second place Mail Online (2.1 billion minutes).
The survey included questions on the related media outlets’ organization, human resources, finance, technology, digital performance, perceived needs, and their relations with, as well as attitudes about platforms. If major media outlets had covered the story, they would have had to acknowledge an awkward reality. OpenX is one of the largest third-party advertising platforms serving the news media, alongside AppNexus, Google, and Facebook. The company is used or has been used in recent months for the placement of targeted ads by outlets such as the New York Times, CNN, Gizmodo, HuffPost, Fox News, and Der Spiegel. Several outlets said they were in the process of reviewing the advertising partnership with OpenX but could not comment further. Likely also driven by the war in Ukraine and other big stories such as the cost of living crisis, the biggest newsbrands did well on engagement metrics in March.
Another way to examine attitudes across media sources is to look at the relationships between awareness and trust (or distrust) for news about government and politics. Some media outlets are better known than others and thus amass trust or distrust across a larger share of panelists. There are simply more people who know of them and have a view one way or another. As a result, I had the luxury to engage in independent reporting by myself,” he explained. Currently, Yetkin Report “can only pay its expenses” as Yetkin hopes to establish a newsroom, hire reporters and technical personnel, and pay royalty fees to the contributing authors one day.
They do not find a direct relationship between the “slant” of a newspaper and the political preference of the owners (cf. our own work on the topic [17]). Instead, bias in the news is found to be more correlated to the political inclinations of the readers, showing a tendency in these news outlets to align themselves with the political preferences of their target audience and hence, maximizing selling profits. We think that this is an important result because, although outlets may seem to take a political stand in their editorial line, evidence suggests that this may be another strategy to generate revenue by targeting a specific group of people. For example, governmental offices at various levels assign a considerable part of their budgets to advertising. Newspapers sympathizers of the government policies may benefit from lucrative advertising contracts with the incumbent. Most business news and media outlets use social media to distribute stories across various networks.
With these insights, PR teams can apply more rigor, tailor their pitches, and build relationships with these high-value targets. They can pitch exclusive stories to top tech reporters at mainstream outlets to increase the chances of mass market exposure. Or they may pitch product announcement stories to niche tech blogs, knowing they have an appetite for that coverage. Measuring PR and media coverage has become more challenging in recent years due to the proliferation of digital platforms, data sources, and measurement methods. The outlets featured on the AllSides Media Bias Cart™ have varying degrees of influence.
The BBC operates several television channels nationally and internationally. The main two in the UK are BBC One and BBC Two, where each English region, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have variations of the channel (excluding BBC Two in Scotland where it is BBC Scotland). The BBC has ten radio stations serving the whole of the UK, a further seven stations in the "national regions" (Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland), and 39 other local stations serving defined areas of England. The station broadcasts the BBC Proms concerts, live and in full, each summer in addition to performances by the BBC Orchestras and Singers.
Meanwhile, the interests and preferences of the average news user in Turkey should not be a mystery for Google, as it is the dominant information gatekeeper that routinely collects and analyzes vast amounts of news-related consumer data. Free for any organisation or media outlet to use, the images have been added to the industry body’s existing collection of photographs which are intended to show modern listeners consuming radio in a variety of everyday scenarios. America's first independent newspaper, the New England Courant, was published by Benjamin Franklin's older brother in 1721.
For YouTube, we manually collected some of the data, like the number of followers of the media outlets’ channels. We also collected the data on the algorithmic recommendations of YouTube with NodeXL Pro. We limited the search to two levels with three videos per level, mapping a total of 69 videos from the studied outlets’ three most popular videos on YouTube.
Audience reach is an important parameter when assessing the business potential of news companies. However, it is good to keep in mind that news companies are diversifying more and more by investing in non-news-related businesses that may include software, data analytics, and real estate services. Again, shout out to Pew Research Center for compiling facts and trends on media outlets. Media outlets produce content that informs the public of news and/or information across a variety of channels and in different forms. Many gaming, weather, and dating apps, as well as a variety of websites, quietly collect behavioral, demographic, health, and location data on users that is sold to advertising tech brokers. Advertising agencies go to data brokers to better target potential consumers.
It follows a slow June for most of the UK’s household news names when only four top ten brands recorded year-on-year audience growth. Mail Online also scored well on time per user, with audiences spending an average of 76 minutes with its content, second only to the BBC (264 minutes). The third-largest newsbrand in the top 50 by audience, The Sun, also saw a large drop (audience of 22.8 million, down 19%). The BBC was once again at the top of the table for most time spent with its content (9.7 billion minutes in October), followed by Mail Online (1.7 billion minutes) and The Guardian (1.2 billion minutes). Year-on-year once again GB News, which launched a new .com URL in March last year, saw the biggest growth with an audience of 8.2 million, up 394% compared to last November.
Unless otherwise noted, these bias ratings are based on online written content, not TV, radio, or broadcast content. The AllSides Media Bias Chart™ is more comprehensive in its methodology than any other media bias chart on the Web. While other media bias charts show you the subjective opinion of just one or a few people, our ratings are based on multipartisan, scientific analysis, including expert panels and surveys of thousands of everyday Americans. At the heart of our company is a global online community, where millions of people and thousands of political, cultural and commercial organizations engage in a continuous conversation about their beliefs, behaviours and brands.
The Guardian, which last month knocked The Independent out of the top five, retained its fifth place ranking in April with 21.5 million visitors during the month. Among the ten biggest sites in May by audience size, ITV was the fastest-growing for the fourth month in a row with audience up 20% year-on-year to reach 14.7 million people. ITV, which launched its streaming service ITVX at the end of 2022, saw similar growth last month with its year-on-year audience growing 25% in March. The broadcaster’s digital chief Geoff Marsh, who joined GB News from the Express last year, recently told Press Gazette that it has a "very ambitious plan" to take on the UK’s biggest news websites.
Human rights groups say the closure of the media outlet VOD is a devastating attack on what remains of Cambodia’s free press. Most of the time, audiences decide which sources will follow the most based on their subjective assumptions. Good media reports about mental illness are responsible, accurate and balanced. They help the community better in understanding the experience of mental illness by including the perspective of people with mental illness, carers, and mental health workers and encourage help-seeking behavior. Some issues which should be considered while reporting on issues concerning mental health and mental illness are as under.
Dinars have routinely been accepted and disbursed by Bank Postanske Stedionica, NLB Komercijalna Bank, and the Post of Serbia, a Serbian public enterprise. No matter your interests (social and political major news, celebrity news) or where you get your news - online, social media, radio programs, TV, or reading newspapers - they keep you connected to the world. One example is Fox News, which often has commentary about the mainstream media in its opinion content.
