Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was the principal mechanism by which the Au nanocomposites inhibited cell proliferation, leading to apoptosis. Thus, the Au nanocomposites, which allowed cell imaging in real-time and induced apoptosis in specific cell types, represent theragnostic agents with potential for future clinical applications in bowel cancer.Microalgae have been attracting attention as feedstock for biorefinery because they have various advantages, such as carbon fixation, high growth rate and high energy yield. The bioactive compounds and lutein contained in microalgae are known to be beneficial for human health, especially eye and brain health. In this study, in order to improve the recovery of bioactive extracts including lutein from Tetraselmis suecica with higher efficiency, an effective solvent was selected, and the extraction parameters such as temperature, time and solid loading were optimized by response surface methodology. The most effective solvent for lutein recovery was identified as 100% methanol, and the optimum condition was determined (42.4 °C, 4.0 h and 125 g/L biomass loading) by calculation of the multiple regression model. The maximum content of recovered lutein was found to be 2.79 mg/mL, and the ABTS radical scavenging activity (IC50) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) value were about 3.36 mg/mL and 561.9 μmol/L, respectively. Finally, the maximum lutein recovery from T. suecica through statistical optimization was estimated to be 22.3 mg/g biomass, which was 3.1-fold improved compared to the control group. In large bowel investigations using endoscopic capsules and upon detection of significant findings, physicians require the location of those findings for a follow-up therapeutic colonoscopy. To cater to this need, we propose a model based on tracking feature points in consecutive frames of videos retrieved from colon capsule endoscopy investigations. Zasocitinib cost By locally approximating the colon as a cylinder, we obtained both the displacement and the orientation of the capsule using geometrical assumptions and by setting priors on both physical properties of the intestine and the image sample frequency of the endoscopic capsule. Our proposed model tracks a colon capsule endoscope through the large intestine for different prior selections. A discussion on validating the findings in terms of intra and inter capsule and expert panel validation is provided. The performance of the model is evaluated based on the average difference in multiple reconstructed capsule's paths through the large intestine. The path difference averaged over all videos was as low as 4±0.7 cm, with min and max error corresponding to 1.2 and 6.0 cm, respectively. The inter comparison addresses frame classification for the rectum, descending and sigmoid, splenic flexure, transverse, hepatic, and ascending, with an average accuracy of 86%.A graphene sample (EGr) was prepared by electrochemical exfoliation of graphite rods in solution containing 0.05 M (NH4)2SO4 + 0.1 M H3BO3 + 0.05 M NaCl. The exfoliation was performed by applying a constant voltage (12 V) between the graphite rods, while the temperature was kept constant (18 °C) with a temperature-controlled cryostat. The structural investigation of the graphene sample, performed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), revealed that the sample consists of a mixture of few-layer (69%), multi-layer graphene (14%) and graphene oxide (17%). In addition, XPS analysis proved that the sample was triple-doped with heteroatoms such as nitrogen (1.7 at%), sulfur (2.5 at%), and boron (3 at%). The sample was deposited onto the surface of a clean, glassy carbon electrode (GC) and investigated for the non-enzymatic electrochemical detection of L-tryptophan (TRP). The electrocatalytic properties of the EGr/GC electrode led to a considerable decrease in the oxidation potential from +0.9 V (bare GC) to +0.72 V. In addition, the EGr/GC electrode has higher sensitivity (two times) and a lower detection limit (ten times) in comparison with the bare GC electrode. The dichloromethane extract from leaves of Melicope barbigera (Rutaceae), endemic to the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i, yielded four new and three previously known acetophenones and 2H-chromenes, all found for the first time in M. barbigera. The structures of the new compounds obtained from the dichloromethane extract after purification by chromatographic methods were unambiguously elucidated by spectroscopic analyses including 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy and HRESIMS. The absolute configuration was determined by modified Mosher's method. Compounds 2, 4 and the mixture of 6 and 7 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities against the human ovarian cancer cell line A2780 with IC50 values of 30.0 and 75.7 µM for 2 and 4, respectively, in a nuclear shrinkage cytotoxicity assay.
To define an imaging risk profile in a population of patients affected by Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PanNENs) candidates to surgery, by assessing the predictive role of 68Ga-DOTATOC and 18F-FDG PET/CT and PET/MR derived parameters in risk stratification, particularly regarding histological features of aggressive behaviour.
Retrospective study including 83 patients (53 males, 30 females; median age 60 years, interquartile range 52-66.5), who underwent to 68Ga-DOTATOC (PET/CT
= 77; PET/MR
= 6) and, 68/83 patients, also to 18F-FDG PET (PET/CT
= 65; PET/MR
= 3) before surgery for PanNEN between 2011 and 2019, with available histological and follow-up data. The PET scans were interpreted with both qualitative (positive vs. negative) and semiquantitative measurements as follows maximum and mean standardized uptake value (SUVmax and SUVmean) for both 18F-FDG and 68Ga-DOTATOC scans, metabolic tumour volume (MTV) and tumour lesion glycolysis (TLG) for 18F-FDG scans and somatostatin receptor dhold for MTV was 7.98 (sensitivity and specificity of 69.7 and 82.4%, respectively) (
= 0.0004) whereas the cut-off for TLG was 32.4 (sensitivity and specificity of 69.7% and 82.4%, respectively) (
= 0.0004).
