HAL induced OD development, with significant increases in the frequency of VCM and TP. NAR treatment (100 and 300 mg/kg) prevented HAL-induced OD significantly. Additionally, NAR treatment reduced the HAL-induced nitric oxide and lipid peroxide production, increased the antioxidation power and neurotransmitter levels in the striatum, and significantly reduced the levels of neuroinflammatory and apoptotic markers. Our results first demonstrate the neuroprotective effects of NAR against HAL-induced OD, suggesting that NAR may help in delaying or treating human TD in clinical settings.
The process during and after heart transplantation is quite complicated, and studies addressing patient experiences are needed. Heart transplantation particularly affects the recipients' activities of daily living and exposes them to various complications. The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of heart transplant recipients during and after heart transplantation.
This qualitative, phenomenological research was conducted with 11 heart transplant recipients in the university hospital, which is one of the 14 heart transplantation centers in Turkey. The data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews in a private room that ensured both the comfort of the participants and the necessary conditions for safe data collection. The interviews were recorded using an audio recorder, transcribed, and then analyzed using inductive content analysis. Data collection was terminated after the 11th interview when the data reached the saturation point.
The study data were categorized into the fategies, guiding the healthcare professionals. The challenges and relevant coping strategies of heart transplant recipients may be integrated into clinical practice and may help plan patient's care. The results may also be used to design and implement an intervention program to improve care for these patients.
At the end of the study, the experiences of heart transplant recipients were obtained regarding a new life with a new heart, challenges, and coping. The study results provide an insight into the challenges that the heart transplant recipients face and their coping strategies, guiding the healthcare professionals. The challenges and relevant coping strategies of heart transplant recipients may be integrated into clinical practice and may help plan patient's care. The results may also be used to design and implement an intervention program to improve care for these patients.
Despite decades of de-institutionalization and the best efforts of community mental health services, individuals with schizophrenia living outside the hospital may be described as in the community but not of the community, and remain in a very real sense socially excluded.
To determine the relationship between social integration and quality of life among patients with schizophrenia attending the outpatient clinic of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital Abeokuta in Nigeria.
One hundred and fifty-one patients were recruited. Sociodemographic questionnaire, MINI-PLUS, WHOQOL-BREF, Social Integration Scale and PANSS were administered. Multivariable regression analyses were performed to identify the determinants of quality of life and the relationship with social integration.
The mean (± SD) age of the respondents was 40.00 (± 10.23), 56.3% were males, 37.1% were single. Independent predictors of lower quality of life were (1) more severe psychopathology for the domains of general health (p = 0.003), social relationship (p = 0.019) and environment (p = 0.008); (2) longer duration of illness for the social relationship (p = 0.028) and environment (p = 0.015) domains; and (3) negative symptoms (p = 0.034) for the physical domain.

Centromeres are specialized chromosomal domains involved in kinetochore formation and faithful chromosome segregation. Despite a high level of functional conservation, centromeres are not identified by DNA sequences, but by epigenetic means. Universally, centromeres are typically formed on highly repetitive DNA, which were previously considered to be silent. However, recent studies have shown that transcription occurs in this region, known as centromeric-derived RNAs (cenRNAs). CenRNAs that contribute to fundamental aspects of centromere function have been recently investigated in detail. see more However, the distribution, behavior and contributions of centromeric transcripts are still poorly understood.
The aim of this article is to provide an overview of the roles of cenRNAs in centromere formation and function.
We describe the structure and DNA sequence of centromere from yeast to human. In addition, we briefly introduce the roles of cenRNAs in centromere formation and function, kinetochore structure, accurate chromosome segregation, and pericentromeric heterochromatin assembly. Centromeric circular RNAs (circRNAs) and R-loops are rising stars in centromere function. CircRNAs have been successfully identified in various species with the assistance of high-throughput sequencing and novel computational approaches for non-polyadenylated RNA transcripts. Centromeric R-loops can be identified by the single-strand DNA ligation-based library preparation technique. But the molecular features and function of these centromeric R-loops and circRNAs are still being investigated.
In this review, we summarize recent findings on the epigenetic regulation of cenRNAs across species, which would provide useful information about cenRNAs and interesting hints for further studies.
