Pervasive refusal syndrome (PRS) is a complex condition that affects young people leading to social withdrawal, inability or refusal to eat, drink, mobilise or speak. The affected individual regresses and is unable to self-care and quite characteristically will resist rehabilitation, worsen with praise or remain entirely passive. This systematic review was aimed at describing clinical features of PRS, current interventions and to summarise some of the nosological aspects of the condition. Without language restriction, an electronic search was conducted in Embase, PsychInfo, Medline, Cochrane library, and PubMed databases yielding 29 articles with a total of 79 cases. We performed a risk of assessment bias using an adapted Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. 124 articles were identified, of which 29 were included and these yielded 79 cases. Seventy-six percent of the studies had a low rate of risk of assessment bias (ve.PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in comparison with patients without PD for the treatment of hip fractures. Therefore, we performed a mono-centre study including 145 patients with PD and 2135 consecutive patients without PD as a concurrent group (C). METHODS For analysis, we used our database, in which any type of hip fracture was enrolled. The study period ranged from 2007 to 2017, and the patient age was ≥ 60 years. Overall, 10 variables were included. The primary measures were operations for any reason, infection, dislocation, failure, and mortality. The secondary outcome was any de novo fracture based on a new fall. The follow-up period for every living patient was 2 years after the operation. Any missing data were retrospectively evaluated via telephone. see more The hypothesis was no effect between the two groups. RESULTS No significant differences were observed regarding revision (p = 0.348), infection (p = 0.207), dislocation (p = 0.785), failure of internal fixation (p = 0.368), failure of replacement (p = 0.174), and de novo fractures (p = 0.287). However, patients with PD sustained a contralateral hip fracture significantly more often (p  less then  0.001). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated no effects up to 2 years after the operation (log rank 0.259). CONCLUSION Compared to a concurrent group, patients with PD demonstrated no more complications and similar mortality rates within 2 years after surgery. The rate of dislocation after hip replacement was also not increased. see more A contralateral hip fracture was the most common de novo fracture in PD. Further studies should investigate measures reducing the risk for any new falls in PD.The popularity of lemon balm in conventional medicine is suggested by the existence of two groups of compounds, namely essential oil and phenylpropanoids pathway derivatives. One of the promising approaches to improve tolerance to drought stress induced oxidative damage in seedlings grown in greenhouses and plant growth chambers is replacing the traditional and high-cost light technologies by recently developed light emitting diodes (LED). In this experiment, we analyzed the role of various LED lights including red (R), blue (B), red (70%) + blue (30%) (RB), and white (W) as well as normal greenhouse light (as control) to stimulate defense mechanisms against drought stress in two genotypes of Melissa officinalis L. The present study demonstrates that pre-treatment with LEDs with high-intensity output for 4 weeks alleviated harmful effects of drought stress in the two genotypes. Under drought stress, RB LED pre-treated plantlets of the two genotypes exhibited the highest relative growth index of shoot and root and total phenolic and anthocyanin content compared to those irradiated with other LEDs and greenhouse lights. The highest amount of malondialdehyde level was detected in R LED exposed plants. In response to drought, LED-exposed plants especially RB light-irradiated plants of the two genotypes maintained significantly higher antioxidant and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) enzyme activities and higher expression level of the PAL1 and 4CL-1 genes compared to those irradiated with greenhouse light. We concluded that RB LED light provides a better growth condition and resistance to drought stress for the two genotypes of lemon balm by the highest antioxidant activity and the least amount of damage to the cell membranes. Our data suggest that LED light pre-treatments as moderate stress activate antioxidant systems, enhance the scavenging of ROS and induce drought stress tolerance in the two genotypes of lemon balm plants.PURPOSE Accurate delineation of intraprostatic gross tumor volume (GTV) is mandatory for successful fusion biopsy guidance and focal therapy planning of prostate cancer (PCa). Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is the current gold standard for GTV delineation; however, prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography (PSMA-PET) is emerging as a promising alternative. This study compares GTV delineation between mpMRI and 68Ga-PSMA-PET in a large number of patients using validated contouring approaches. METHODS One hundred one patients with biopsy-proven primary PCa who underwent mpMRI and 68Ga-PSMA-PET within 3 months before primary treatment were retrospectively enrolled. Clinical parameters (age, PSA, Gleason score in biopsy) were documented. GTV based on MRI and PET images were delineated; volumes measured and laterality determined. Additionally, biopsy data from 77 patients was analyzed. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were performed using concong evidence for parameters to guide when 68Ga-PSMA-PET is dispensable, it should be performed additionally to MRI in patients with intermediate and high-risk PCa according to D'Amico classification to improve GTV delineation.AIM To illustrate the [18F]FDG-PET/CT findings in patients affected by cancer with clinical diagnosis of Covid-19 METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the cases of patients who showed pulmonary involvement unrelated to cancer metastases on March 13 and 16 2020. We reviewed the scans, collected medical history, and exposure information. RESULTS Among the 13 scans, we identified 5 cases with imaging findings suspicious for viral infection. Peripheral lung consolidations and/or ground-glass opacities in two or more lobes were found. Lung abnormalities displayed increased [18F]FDG uptake (SUVmax 4.3-11.3). All the patients on the day of PET/CT acquisition were asymptomatic, and they did not have fever or cough. In view of the PET/CT findings, home isolation, symptom surveillance, and treatment (in 3/5 patients) were indicated. At 1-week follow-up, 2/5 patients experienced the onset of mild respiratory symptoms. CONCLUSIONS The [18F]FDG-PET/CT can identify probable Covid-19 disease in the absence or before symptoms onset and can guide patient management.
