Water deficit is the most critical factor limiting plant growth and production and salicylic acid (SA) has potential for stress mitigation in plants; therefore, we evaluated the effect of SA on radish (Raphanus sativus L.) growth and ecophysiology under water deficit. Plants were sprayed with SA (100μM) or water (control), and irrigated at 80% (W80), 60% (W60), 40% (W40), and 20% (W20) of field capacity. The SA treatments and drought stress started 7days after sowing and lasted until the end of the cycle (30days after sowing). The morphophysiological analyses showed that radish plants had impaired growth at the lower water supply levels, but the treatment with SA reversed these growth restraints under moderate stress, leading to increases in shoot mass at W40 and storage root mass at W60 and W40. SA treatment also reversed the reduction of storage root volume at W60. The tendency of water deficit to increase F O and reduce F V /F M suggests possible damage to the photosystem II of drought-stressed plants. The parameters of gas exchange and photosynthetic pigments showed maintained photosynthetic efficiency, but total photosynthesis decreased due the lower shoot dry mass. Overall, exogenously applied SA reversed the growth restraints at W60 and W40, which revealed that SA was effective in mitigating the effects of moderate water deficit on biomass accumulation and partitioning in radish plants.Two-dimensional (2D) organic intrinsic magnetic semiconductors have potential applications in low-dimensional organic spintronic devices due to their remarkable physical properties. However, 2D metal-organic frameworks with magnetic and semiconducting properties are rare. In this work, the electronic and magnetic properties of 2D heterotriangulene-based manganese organic frameworks including triphenylamine (TPA) and triphenylborane (TPB) organic ligands with methylene (M), carbonyl (C) or oxygen (O) coordination groups were studied by first-principles calculations. XTPA-Mn (X = M and O) is a bipolar magnetic semiconductor with a large spin-flip band gap. CTPA-Mn and XTPB-Mn (X = M, C and O) are half semiconductors with perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The electronic properties of materials ranging from half semiconductors to bipolar magnetic semiconductors appear in CTPA-Mn and XTPB-Mn (X = M and C) at biaxial strains. XTPA-Mn and XTPB-Mn with a frustrated antiferromagnetic configuration are semiconductors with good ductility and stability. These results enrich the diversity of 2D organic intrinsic magnetic semiconductors, which have potential applications in spintronic devices. We present a wearable device with III-V nanowires in a flexible polymer, which is used for active mechanical tuning of the second-harmonic generation intensity. An array of vertical GaAs nanowires was grown with metalorganic vapour-phase epitaxy, then embedded in polydimethylsiloxane and detached from the rigid substrate with mechanical peel off. Experimental results show a tunability of the second-harmonic generation intensity by a factor of two for 30% stretching which matches the simulations including the distribution of sizes. We studied the impact of different parameters on the band dispersion and tunability of the second-harmonic generation, such as the pitch, the length, and the diameter. We predict at least three orders of magnitude active mechanical tuning of the nonlinear signal intensity for nanowire arrays. The flexibility of the array together with the resonant wavelength engineering make such structures perspective platforms for future bendable or stretchable nanophotonic devices as light sources or sensors. The intestinal barrier is essential in early life to prevent infection, inflammation, and food allergies. It consists of microbiota, a mucus layer, an epithelial layer, and the immune system. Microbial metabolites, the mucus, antimicrobial peptides, and secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) protect the intestinal mucosa against infection. The complex interplay between these functionalities of the intestinal barrier is crucial in early life by supporting homeostasis, development of the intestinal immune system, and long-term gut health. Exclusive breastfeeding is highly recommended during the first 6 months. When breastfeeding is not possible, milk-based infant formulas are a safe alternative. Breast milk contains many bioactive components that help to establish the intestinal microbiota and influence the development of the intestinal epithelium and the immune system. Importantly, breastfeeding lowers the risk for intestinal and respiratory tract infections. Here we review all aspects of intestinal barrier function and the nutritional components that impact its functionality in early life, such asmicronutrients, bioactive milk proteins, milk lipids, and human milk oligosaccharides. These components are present in breast milk and can be added to milk-based infant formulas to support gut health and immunity.
Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini, and Opisthorchis felineus are the three most important human liver fluke species in the Opisthorchiidae family, infecting approximately 25 million people worldwide. Drug treatment is needed to control morbidity and is also useful in lowering transmission. Several drugs used in various regimens are available to treat these infections, but their comparative efficacy is uncertain. We aimed to compare the efficacy in terms of cure rate and egg reduction rate of currently registered drugs against human liver fluke infection.
We conducted a systematic review using readily available electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, KoreaMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data) without language restrictions from inception until June 29, 2021. Clinical trials with pairwise comparison of drugs (praziquantel, albendazole, mebendazole, tribendimidine, or combinations of these drugs) against C sinensis, O viverrini most studies, especially those published before 2000. Selection bias due to poor random sequence generation and allocation concealment was high, and performance and detection biases were frequently unreported.
Praziquantel shows high efficacy against clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis. Tribendimidine might serve as a treatment alternative and warrants further investigation. Although albendazole is efficacious when long treatment schedules (5 days or 7 days) are applied, limited size of studies and high risk of bias affect the interpretation of results. More high-quality studies are needed to promote the establishment of treatment guidelines for human liver fluke infection.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between acute glycemic variability and functional outcome in patients with AIS. Cohort studies were obtained by search Medline, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from inception to November, 2021. A random-effect model which incorporates the intra-study heterogeneity was chosen to pool the results. Ten cohort studies including 3038 patients were included, and 1319 (43.4%) had poor functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale >2) up to three months after disease onset. Pooled results showed that higher acute GV was associated with an increased risk of poor functional outcome, as evidenced by GV evaluated by the standard deviation of blood glucose (SDBG, OR 1.91, 95% CI 1.38 to 2.65, I2=60%, p less then 0.001), the coefficient of variation of blood glucose (OR 2.03, 95% CI 1.15 to 3.58, I2=17%, p=0.02), the range of glucose (OR 1.43, 95% CI 1.11 to 1.83, I2=22%, p=0.005), and the mean amplitude of glycemic excursion (OR 1.59, 95% CI 1.10 to 2.31, I2=0%, p=0.01). Subgroup analyses did not support that difference in study design, treatments for AIS, mean age of the patients, duration for GV measuring, or study quality would significantly affect the association between SDBG and functional outcome after AIS. In conclusion, higher acute glycemic variability may predict poor functional outcome within 3 months after AIS.A higher triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been related to an increased incidence of stroke in community population. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the association between TyG index and prognosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke (IS). Observational studies, which evaluated the influence of TyG index on functional outcome and mortality in patients with acute IS were retrieved by search the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from inception to February 20, 2022. Two authors independently collected the data of study characteristics and outcomes. A random-effect model was used to pool the results via incorporating the influence of possible between-study heterogeneity. Eight cohort studies involving 34 076 patients with acute IS contributed to the study. Pooled results showed that a higher TyG index was independently associated with increased risks of all-cause mortality (OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.19-2.15, p=0.002; I2=78%) and poor functional outcome (OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.11-1.69, p=0.004; I2=71%). Further sensitivity analyses by excluding one cohort study at a time showed consistent results (p all0.05). In conclusion, higher TyG index is a predictor of all-cause mortality and poor functional outcome in patients with acute IS, and TyG index may be useful for prognostic evaluation in these patients.Aim was to explore the associations between baseline cortisol levels and surgery method of primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH). We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features and management of 30 patients (18 females and 12 males) who were diagnosed with PBMAH in our center between 2005 and 2019. Based on surgery method, we divided the patients into two groups unilateral adrenalectomy (UA) group; and bilateral adrenalectomy (BA) group. Serum cortisol rhythm and 24-hour urinary free cortisol (UFC/24 h) levels were assayed using chemiluminescence method. Associations between baseline cortisol levels and BA were assessed using logistic regression. The predictive value of baseline cortisol levels for BA was calculated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Twenty patients (66.7%) underwent UAs and ten patients (33.3%) underwent BAs. After adjusting for age, sex, BMI, SBP, and adrenal volume, the concentrations of baseline serum cortisol (8 AM, 4 PM, and 0 AM) and UFC/24 h were associated with bilateral adrenalectomy (all p0.05). Lorlatinib According to maximum Youden index criteria, the optimal cutoffs of 8 AM serum cortisol level and UFC were 26.89 μg/dl and 406.65 μg/24 h, respectively, for BA. The baseline cortisol levels are positively associated with BA. Increased levels of baseline cortisol levels may predict higher possibility of BA, which should be confirmed by prospective studies.
