Under 1-year crops rotation, the remediation ability of BC still remains, while Cd and Pb can exhibit different risk to different crops. The data of this study can provide scientific suggestions for the selection of suitable crops and proper BC amount in remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil.Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are typical endocrine disruptors found in common pharmaceuticals and personal care products, which are frequently detected in aquatic environments, especially surface water treated for drinking. However, current treatment technologies are inefficient for removing emerging endocrine disruptors, leading to the potential contamination of tap water. MK-0991 This study employed an optimized analytical method comprising solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-LC-MS/MS) to detect APIs in tap water in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Several therapeutic classes of pharmaceuticals and personal care products, including anti-inflammatory drugs (dexamethasone and diclofenac), antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole and triclosan), antiepileptics (primidone), antibacterial agents (ciprofloxacin), beta-blockers (propranolol), psychoactive stimulants (caffeine), and antiparasitic drugs (diazinon), were detected in the range of  less then  0.03 to 21.39 ng/L, whereas chloramphenicol (an antibiotic) was below the detection limit ( less then  0.23 ng/L). A comparison with global data revealed the spatial variability of emerging tap water pollutants. Diclofenac accounted for the highest concentration (21.39 ng/L), followed by triclosan and ciprofloxacin (9.74 ng/L and 8.69 ng/L, respectively). Caffeine was observed in all field samples with the highest distribution at 35.32%. Caffeine and triclosan exhibited significantly different distributions in household tap water (p  less then  0.05). Humans are exposed to these APIs by drinking the tap water; however, the estimated risk was negligible (risk quotient  less then  1). APIs are useful water quality monitoring indicators for water resource conservation and water supply safety related to emerging organic contaminants; thus, API detection is important for safeguarding the environment and human health.Identification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) sources and hot spot areas are the primary driving forces for their control in the environment. This study was performed in the US coastal areas to identify the major sources of PAHs and investigate the spatial distribution associated with carcinogenic PAHs (CPAHs) using a novel spatial forecasting method for the first time in environmental sciences. Diagnostic ratios of PAHs demonstrated the predominance of pyrogenic sources compared to petrogenic sources within the area of study. Five factors were extracted using positive matrix factorization method with respect to 16 priority PAHs, indicating the dominance of pyrogenic versus petrogenic sources mainly as a result of combustion products in the environment. The total toxic benzo[a]pyrene equivalency (TEQ) for all CPAHs ranged from 0.03 to 10,456 ng/g containing a mean of 199 ng/g. The contribution of each CPAH to the total TEQ varied according to the following order benzo[a]pyrene (65.4%), dibenzo[a,h]anthracene (12%), benzo[b]fluoranthene (10%), benzo[a]anthracene (6%), indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene (6%), benzo[k]fluoranthene (0.5%) and chrysene (0.1%). The spatial analysis by fixed rank kriging (FRK) highlighted a similar pattern associated with all of the CPAHs with higher values in the northern part of New Jersey State. In particular, Passaic River, Upper New York/New Jersey Harbor, Mullica River, Schuylkill River, Newark Bay and Christina River were the most contaminated stations regarding the observed values of CPAHs.The research is a maiden study aimed to assess the radioactivity in groundwater of Srinagar City using uranium and radon as proxies. In this study, 60 water samples were collected from various water sources that include bore wells, hand pumps and lakes of Srinagar City. Among them, 45 samples were taken from groundwater with depths ranging from 6 to - 126 m and the rest of the 15 samples were collected from surface sources like lakes, rivers and tap water. A gamma radiation survey of the area was carried out prior to collection of water samples, using a gamma radiation detector. A scintillation-based detector was utilized to measure radon, while as LED fluorimetry was employed to assess uranium in water samples. The average uranium concentration was found to be 2.63 μg L-1 with a maximum value of 15.28 μg L-1 which is less than the globally accepted permissible level of 30 µg L-1. 222Radon concentration varied from 0.2 to 38.5 Bq L-1 with an average value of 8.9 Bq L-1. The radon concentration in 19 groundwater samples (32% of total sites) exceeded the permissible limits of 11 Bq L-1 set by USEPA. This information could be of vital importance to health professionals in Kashmir who are researching on the incidence of lung cancers in the region given the fact that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancers after smoking worldwide.INTRODUCTION Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is a feared complication of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and has been shown to increase morbidity and mortality. Our aim was to assess the incidence of non-variceal UGIB in patients with ACS in a national cohort and its impact on in-hospital mortality, length of stay (LOS), and cost of hospitalization. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study analyzing the 2016 Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) utilizing ICD 10 CM codes. Principal discharge diagnoses of ACS (STEMI, NSTEMI, and UA) in patients over 18 years old were included. Non-variceal UGIB with interventions including endoscopy, angiography, and embolization were also evaluated. Primary outcome was the national incidence of concomitant non-variceal UGIB in the setting of ACS. Secondary outcomes included in-hospital mortality, length of stay, and cost of stay. RESULTS A total of 661,404 discharges with principal discharge diagnosis of ACS in 2016 were analyzed.
