Mymensingh, which infects cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats, is endemic in Asia, Africa and South America. © 2020 Blackwell Verlag GmbH.The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of continuous positive airway pressure treatment on pulse wave velocity and blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea. A randomized controlled study was performed, including 72 patients with type 2 diabetes and newly diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea recruited from outpatient clinics at three Danish hospitals. The patients were randomized to continuous positive airway pressure for 12 weeks or no continuous positive airway pressure. Office measurements were performed at baseline, 4 weeks and 12 weeks. At baseline and 12 weeks, a 24-hr measurement of pulse wave velocity and blood pressure was performed. No significant change was observed in the primary outcome variable of carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity measured with SphygmoCor. With the Mobil-O-Graph, changes in office pulse wave velocity between the groups were significant 0.3 m/s; 95% confidence interval, 0.1-0.6; p = .02. The group receiving continuous positive airway pressure had a larger decrease in pulse wave velocity than controls but none of the changes within the groups were significant. No significant change in ambulatory blood pressure was observed in any of the two groups after 12 weeks. In California, hospitals are required to report incidents of violence towards workers to the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) using an online reporting system that went into effect in 2017. METHODS Reports submitted to CalOSHA from July 2017 to September 2018 pursuant to this new requirement were analyzed using descriptive methods and logistic regression. RESULTS Four hundred eight hospitals submitted reports using the new incident reporting system. Behavioral health units had 1.82 times the odds of the reported incident resulting in physical injury compared to inpatient medical units, and investor-owned facilities had 2.43 times the odds of the reported incident resulting in physical injury compared to city or county-owned facilities. Inpatient and behavioral health units had significantly reduced odds of a reported incident resulting in police involvement when compared to other locations within the hospital. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that protections for healthcare workers deserve ongoing attention from stakeholders and legislators and provide insight into how healthcare facilities report incidents of violence towards workers. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.AIMS The study aimed to explore the effect of video-mediated communication on father-infant bonding and transition to fatherhood during and after Satogaeri Bunben. BACKGROUND Satogaeri Bunben is a Japanese perinatal tradition that results in the pregnant wife and husband living apart, which may interfere with father-infant bonding and transition to fatherhood. DESIGN/METHODS A mixed-methods study was conducted from July 2012 to November 2015. Participants were divided into two groups (Treatment/Control). Quantitative data included Taiji kanjyo Hyotei Syakudo (TKHS) , communication methods, husband's visitation records and video-mediated communication records and satisfaction of video-mediated communication experience. Qualitative data included participants' journal entries about their experience and feelings toward their infants during Satogaeri Bunben. RESULTS Fourteen treatment and thirteen control dyads/couples participated in the study. There were significant differences between groups in the frequency of fathers' visitation during Satogaeri Bunben, as well as on the THKS between groups in cross-sectional analysis and in treatment group in longitudinal analysis. Fathers' journal entries revealed the use of video-mediated communication in both groups, specifically commenting about these experiences and the impact of additional visual cues when communicating. CONCLUSION Video-mediated communication provides a sense of virtual co-presence, which may help support father-infant bonding and transition to fatherhood; however, it does not completely substitute for face-to-face interaction. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.This work investigates the transfer of motor learning from the eye to the hand and its neural correlates by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and a sensorimotor task consisting of the continuous tracking of a virtual target. In pretraining evaluation, all the participants (experimental and control group) performed the tracking task inside an MRI scanner using their right hand and a joystick. After which, the experimental group practiced an eye-controlled version of the task for 5 days using an eye tracking system outside the MRI environment. Post-training evaluation was done 1 week after the first scanning session, where all the participants were scanned again while repeating the manual pretraining task. Behavioral results show that the training in the eye-controlled task produced a better performance not only in the eye-controlled modality (motor learning) but also in the hand-controlled modality (motor transfer). Neural results indicate that eye to hand motor transfer is supported by the motor cortex, the basal ganglia and the cerebellum, which is consistent with previous research focused on other effectors.
