Driftage: a multi-agent program construction regarding idea float detection.
Experimental time series provide an informative window into the underlying dynamical system, and the timing of the extrema of a time series (or its derivative) contains information about its structure. However, the time series often contain significant measurement errors. We describe a method for characterizing a time series for any assumed level of measurement error [Formula see text] by a sequence of intervals, each of which is guaranteed to contain an extremum for any function that [Formula see text]-approximates the time series. Based on the merge tree of a continuous function, we define a new object called the normalized branch decomposition, which allows us to compute intervals for any level [Formula see text]. We show that there is a well-defined total order on these intervals for a single time series, and that it is naturally extended to a partial order across a collection of time series comprising a dataset. We use the order of the extracted intervals in two applications. First, the partial order describing a single dataset can be used to pattern match against switching model output (Cummins et al. in SIAM J Appl Dyn Syst 17(2)1589-1616, 2018), which allows the rejection of a network model. Second, the comparison between graph distances of the partial orders of different datasets can be used to quantify similarity between biological replicates.Multiple-merger coalescents, e.g. [Formula see text]-n-coalescents, have been proposed as models of the genealogy of n sampled individuals for a range of populations whose genealogical structures are not captured well by Kingman's n-coalescent. [Formula see text]-n-coalescents can be seen as the limit process of the discrete genealogies of Cannings models with fixed population size, when time is rescaled and population size [Formula see text]. As established for Kingman's n-coalescent, moderate population size fluctuations in the discrete population model should be reflected by a time-change of the limit coalescent. For [Formula see text]-n-coalescents, this has been explicitly shown for only a limited subclass of [Formula see text]-n-coalescents and exponentially growing populations. This article gives a more general construction of time-changed [Formula see text]-n-coalescents as limits of specific Cannings models with rather arbitrary time changes.BACKGROUND Pedicle screw and rod instrumentation based on titanium can produce satisfying strength and stiffness for spinal fusion. However, excessive stiffness produced by titanium rods may cause stress shielding. Thus, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) rods with a low modulus of elasticity were introduced as substitutes for titanium rods. click here The purpose of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of PEEK rods versus titanium alloy rods in anterior spinal fusion with a new sheep model. METHODS Sheep models of anterior-posterior cervical fusion were innovatively adopted in our study. Twenty-four sheep were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group that received anterior-posterior cervical fixation with titanium rods or PEEK rods, respectively. Then, surgical segments were harvested and assessed by X-ray, micro-CT and histological examination to evaluate the efficiency of bone fusion. RESULTS No complications related to fixation were found during the research process. The results of the X-ray showedl titanium rods, earlier and more evident bone fusion was found in the PEEK rods group. MATERIALS AND METHODS It was reached by the analysis of bones of healthy and osteoporotic rats using analytical transmission electron microscopic methods. RESULTS Electron diffraction patterns show hydroxyapatite (HAP) as dominant phase within the mineralized areas. In the electron energy loss spectrum, a double peak of the phosphorous L-edge seems to be a characteristic feature of the phosphorous binding in biological HAP. The hypothesis bases on periodic features on the collagen surface which agree with distances between oxygen atoms in the (200) plane of octacalcium phosphate (OCP). Bridge pillars for the HAP network consist of OCP coupled with a half unit cell on collagen by oxygen-hydrogen bridges. click here Possibly, the metastable OCP bridges are only a transient step, while the mineralization is starting. OCP and HAP couple by similar distances of calcium atoms in an interface close to the (100) planes of the OCP and the HAP network. To reach the perfect overlap of the equidistant Ca atoms, the HAP network has to be rotated by 22.5° around the a-axis, 11.5° around the c-axis of HAP, and 10.1° around an axis perpendicular to a and c. CONCLUSIONS A supercell based on this idea is able to explain the dominance of HAP in the electron diffraction patterns, the arrangement of the (002) lattice planes perpendicular to the collagen fiber axis, and sections of high-resolution TEM images. In the Horn of Africa, little is known about temporal changes in hydroclimate owing to the influence of multiple weather systems, the complex terrain, and the sparse instrumental records. Absolutely dated tree-ring records offer the potential to extend our understanding of climate into the pre-instrumental era, but tree-ring studies in this region, and indeed all of tropical Africa, have been rare largely due to lack of an annual climate cycle that reliably produces annual tree-rings. In this study, 40 cores were obtained from 31 Juniperus procera trees growing in the grounds of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches in the Gonder region of Ethiopia. The samples were cross-dated using a re-iterative process involving identifying anatomical features from high-resolution images. The tentative ring-width chronologies were revised after the determination of bomb-peak accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon dates. Individual series were significantly correlated to the respective master chronologies (r > 0.55; P  less then  0.05), and expressed population signal values ranged from 0.55 to 0.92. Historical drought years were successfully traced in the chronologies by pointer year analysis. This study confirms that Juniperus procera growing in areas of unimodal precipitation exhibits annual tree-rings and offers the potential as an indirect measure of past climate.
