A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CNKI was endorsed by the authors to identify already published studies. Forty-nine studies were found to be eligible for meta-analyses. The pooled meta-analyses results showed that genotypic frequencies of APOC3 rs2854116, PNPLA3 rs738409, and TM6SF2 rs58542926 polymorphisms among patients and controls differed significantly. Moreover, genotypic frequencies of PNPLA3 rs738409 and TM6SF2 rs58542926 polymorphisms among patients and controls from both Caucasians and Asians also differed significantly. But However, no such differences in genotypic frequencies were observed for the APOC3 rs2854117 polymorphism. This meta-analysis suggested that APOC3 rs2854116, PNPLA3 rs738409, and TM6SF2 rs58542926 polymorphisms might affect predisposition of NAFLD.Objective This study aimed to examine the interplay between the personality vulnerability dimensions of self-criticism and dependency and experienced satisfaction or frustration of the basic psychological needs in relation to adolescents' depressive symptoms. In doing so, we investigated both indirect associations between personality and depressive symptoms (through need-based experiences) and interactions between personality and need-based experiences (i.e., moderation). Results Multilevel analyses showed that dependency and self-criticism related to experiences of need frustration and depressive symptoms at both the between-person level (i.e., the level of interindividual differences) and the within-person level (i.e., the level of intraindividual change). In turn, need frustration was related to adolescents' depressive symptoms at both levels of analysis. Personality did not significantly moderate the associations between the psychological needs and depressive symptoms. Conclusion The results suggest that self-criticism and dependency are related to experiences of psychological need frustration and depressive symptoms at the level of both interindividual differences and within person-change.Background Many current protocols for managing penetrating neck injuries (PNIs) still suggest zonal approaches. This study was undertaken to determine the correlation between the zone of the external wound and the level of the internal injury, and to verify whether a 'no-zone' approach to PNI is valid. Methods Patients admitted with a PNI to a tertiary trauma care centre between January 2011 and May 2018 were identified from a trauma database. Those with confirmed injury to the vascular system or an aerodigestive tract injury (ADTI) were included in the study. The medical records of each patient were reviewed with regard to the zone of the external wound and the level of internal injury, and the findings were compared. Results In the period under review, 1075 patients were treated for a PNI. Of these, 298 (27·7 per cent) had a confirmed vascular injury or ADTI and were included in the cohort. In 176 patients (59·1 per cent) the site of the internal injury was in the same zone as the external wound. In a further 70 patients (23·5 per cent) there was no correlation between the site of the internal injury and the external wound, and in the remaining 52 patients (17·4 per cent) the correlation could not be determined. In this cohort, all clinically assessable patients with significant injuries had either physical signs suggestive of injury or deep surgical emphysema on radiological examination. Conclusion An approach to PNI based on zones is questionable, and this study supports a no-zone approach based on imaging guided by clinical examination.Background and objectives Transdermal differentiation of human adipose stem cells (ASCs) to other cell types is still a challenge in regenerative medicine. Cells in these spheres were induced to differentiate into neurons using low-intensity lasers by a process called photobiomodulation (PBM). Despite strong efforts and promising results in this field, PDT has not yet been approved by any regulatory authority for the treatment of colorectal cancer, one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal tumors. In the search of novel therapeutic strategies, we examined the in vivo effect of PDT with a lipophilic phthalocyanine (Pc9) encapsulated into polymeric poloxamine micelles (T1107) in a murine colon carcinoma model. Study design/materials and methods In vivo assays were performed with BALB/c mice challenged with CT26 cells. Pc9 tumor uptake was evaluated with an in vivo imaging system. Immunofluorescence, western blot, and flow cytometry assays were carried out to characterize the activation of apoptosis and an antitumor immune response. Results Pc9-T1107 effectively delayed tumor growth and prolonged mice survival, without generating systemic or tissue-specific toxicity.
