The systemic influence of iron oxide nanoparticles on the elemental homeostasis of key organs was examined in male rats. In tissues taken at different intervals from nanoparticles injection, the dynamics of elemental changes was analyzed. The organ metallome was studied using total reflection X-ray fluorescence. The obtained data were processed with advanced cluster and discriminant analyses-to classify the tissues according to their organs of origin and to distinguish accurately the nanoparticle-treated and normal rats. Additionally, in the case of liver and heart, it was possible to determine the elements of highest significance for different treatments, which may serve as markers of exposure to iron oxide nanoparticles. We sought to determine the effects of selenium (Se) on acrylamide (ACR)-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. In our study, 50 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200-250 g were randomly divided into five groups. The control group was given intra-gastric (i.g.) saline (1 mL) for 10 days. buy Dexketoprofen trometamol The ACR group was given i.g. ACR in saline (38.27 mg/kg titrated to 1 mL) for 10 days. The Se0.5 + ACR and Se1 + ACR groups were administered Se in saline (0.5 and 1 mg/kg, respectively) for 10 days and given i.g. ACR (38.27 mg/kg) one hour after the Se injections. The Se1 group was administered i.g. Se (1 mg/kg) for 10 days. On day 11, intracardiac blood samples were obtained from the rats while they were under anesthesia, after which they were euthanized by decapitation. Urea and creatinine concentrations of blood serum samples were analyzed with an autoanalyzer. Enzyme-linked immunosorbence immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to quantify malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), interleukin (IL)-33, IL-6, IL-1β, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), mitogen-activated protein kinase-1 (MAPK-1), and caspase-3 in kidney tissues. Renal tissues were evaluated by histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations for 8-hydroxylo-2'-deoxyguanosin 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OhDG) and Bax. Serum urea and creatinine levels were higher in the ACR group than in the control, and these ACR-induced increases were prevented by high doses of Se. Additionally, ACR induced the renal oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and damage to DNA and tissue; likewise, these were prevented by high doses of Se. Taken with ACR, Se confers protection against ACR-induced nephrotoxicity in rats by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and DNA damage. In the original version of this article, the authors' units in the affiliation section are, unfortunately, incorrect. Results showed that in the first strategy, when the light passed through the dye before reaching the broth, biomass productivity rate (P) and maximum specific growth rate (µmax) relative to control case, were increased up to 60 and 23% respectively. Increasing in these parameters were more, for the low dye concentration. Also, in the second strategy, when the light passed through the microalgae before reaching the dye solution, P and µmax for lower concentration increased about 9 and 15%, respectively. But using high dye concentration growth of the algae was decreased. Furthermore, using R6G caused increase in the lipid and chlorophyll content of the microalgae Chlorella sp.Oncolytic virotherapy is a promising antitumor strategy which utilizes the lytic nature of viral replication to kill cancer cells. Oncolytic viruses (OVs) can induce cancer cell death and trigger immune responses to metastatic cancer in vivo. Reverse genetic systems have aided the insertion of anticancer genes into various OVs to augment their oncolytic capacity. Furthermore, OVs target and destroy the population of tumor-initiating cancer stem cells. These cancer stem cells are associated with metastasis and development of resistance to conventional anticancer approaches. Targeting cancer stem cells is essential since killing only differentiated tumor cells may lead to enrichment of cancer stem cells and thus indicate a poor prognosis. In this review, we summarize the oncolytic activity of various classes of OVs towards different types of cancer stem cells and also discuss the synergistic activity achieved by the combination of OVs with traditional therapies on chemo- and radiotherapy-resistant cancer stem cells.PURPOSE OF REVIEW To evaluate the utility of cadaveric models for kidney transplant (KT) surgery training. RECENT FINDINGS Medline® and PubMed® databases were searched for English and Spanish language articles published describing different learning models used in KT formation. We evaluated the use of cadavers preserved by Thiel's embalming method (TEM) as KT simulation models. Students were divided in groups of 4 people four trainees mentored by an expert in KT surgery. Among the trainees were surgical residents and low-experience surgeons. A total of 39 TEM preserved bodies were used, of which 75 viable renal grafts were obtained. In each cadaver, two complete transplantation processes were performed, each consisting of en bloc nephrectomy with the trunk of aorta and inferior vena cava, bench surgery and perfusion with saline of the organ, and KT surgery. As with any surgical procedure, learning KT surgery is a stepwise process that requires years of dedication. The models available for the surgical simulation of KT surgery allow to practice and achieve dexterity in performing the procedure in a safe and reproducible way. Training on TEM-preserved corpses offers a highly realistic model for the surgical simulation of KT surgery.
