Rickettsia was the most predominant endosymbiont while Cardinium was totally absent from all examined populations. Philaenus spumarius harbored Rickettsia, Arsenophonus, Hamiltonella and Wolbachia, N. campestris carried Rickettsia, Hamiltonella and Wolbachia while P. signatus was infected only by Rickettsia. The results of this study will provide an important knowledge resource for understanding the population dynamics of vectors of X. fastidiosa with a view to formulate effective management strategies towards the bacterium. We evaluated the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and incident atrial fibrillation (AF) and analyzed the impact of NAFLD on AF risk in relation to body mass index (BMI). A total of 8,048,055 subjects without significant liver disease who were available fatty liver index (FLI) values were included. Subjects were categorized into 3 groups based on FLI  less then  30, 30 to  less then  60, and ≥ 60. During a median 8-year of follow-up, 534,442 subjects were newly diagnosed as AF (8.27 per 1000 person-years). Higher FLI was associated with an increased risk of AF (hazard ratio [HR] 1.053, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.046-1.060 in 30 ≤ FLI  less then  60, and HR 1.115, 95% CI 1.106-1.125 in FLI ≥ 60). In underweight subjects (BMI  less then  18.5 kg/m2), higher FLI raised the risk of AF (by 1.6-fold in 30 ≤ FLI  less then  60 and by twofold in FLI ≥ 60). In normal- and overweight subjects, higher FLI was associated with an increased risk of AF, but the HRs were attenuated. In obese subjects, higher FLI was not associated with higher risk of AF. NAFLD as assessed by FLI was independently associated with an increased risk of AF in nonobese subjects with BMI  less then  25 kg/m2. The impact of NAFLD on AF risk was accentuated in lean subjects with underweight.Mosaic loss of chromosome Y (mLOY) in leukocytes has attracted much attention as an emerging biomarker of aging and aging-related diseases. We evaluated the usefulness of saliva for mLOY analysis and showed that saliva-derived mLOY is significantly associated with aging and increased physical activity, but not with smoking. While these data support the robust association between saliva-derived mLOY and aging, caution is required when comparing data from saliva-derived and blood-derived mLOY.Serodiagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection is impeded by immunological cross-reactivity among the human coronaviruses (HCoVs) SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-1, MERS-CoV, OC43, 229E, HKU1, and NL63. Here we report the identification of humoral immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 peptides that may enable discrimination between exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and other HCoVs. We used a high-density peptide microarray and plasma samples collected at two time points from 50 subjects with SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by qPCR, samples collected in 2004-2005 from 11 subjects with IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-1, 11 subjects with IgG antibodies to other seasonal human coronaviruses (HCoV), and 10 healthy human subjects. Through statistical modeling with linear regression and multidimensional scaling we identified specific peptides that were reassembled to identify 29 linear SARS-CoV-2 epitopes that were immunoreactive with plasma from individuals who had asymptomatic, mild or severe SARS-CoV-2 infections. Larger studies will be required to determine whether these peptides may be useful in serodiagnostics.Exploring new models of medical care requires evaluating the impact of new care strategies not only on physiological parameters but also on the quality of life of the patient. On the other hand the presence of anxiety together with depression requires further consideration when planning appropriate management strategies. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a home-based cardiac rehabilitation program incorporating an e-Health technology on health-related quality of life associated with symptoms of anxiety and depression in moderate-risk patients. A multicenter, randomized controlled clinical trial was designed to compare a traditional hospital based cardiac rehabilitation program (n = 38, 35 male) with a mixed home surveillance program where patients exercised at home with a remote electrocardiographic monitoring device (n = 33, 31 male). The Short Form-36 (SF-36) Health Survey and the Goldberg questionnaire were used to evaluate quality of life and the presence of symptoms of anxiety and depression respectively. The results of this study show that the type of cardiac rehabilitation program did not influence the improvement in quality of life (p = 0.854), but the presence of symptoms of anxiety and depression did (p = 0.001). Although both programs achieved a decrease in anxiety and depression symptoms and improved functional capacity (p ≤ 0.001), a significant interaction effect was found between the group with or without anxiety and depression symptoms and the type of program in the bodily pain dimension (p = 0.021). Trial registration Retrospectively registered NCT02796404 (10/06/2016) in clinialtrials.gov.Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine, and of xanthine to uric acid. XOR also enhances the production of reactive oxygen species and causes endothelial dysfunction. In this study, we evaluated the association of XOR and its substrate with the vascular complications in 94 Japanese inpatients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). The plasma XOR activity and plasma xanthine levels were positively correlated with the body mass index, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), γ-GTP, fasting plasma insulin, and the homeostasis model of assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and negatively correlated with the high density lipoprotein cholesterol. The plasma XOR activity also showed a positive correlation with the serum triglyceride. ICEC0942 concentration Multivariate analyses identified AST, ALT, fasting plasma insulin and HOMA-IR as being independently associated with the plasma XOR activity. The plasma XOR activity negatively correlated with the duration of diabetes, and positively correlated with the coefficient of variation of the R-R interval and sensory nerve conduction velocity.
