The benefits of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (EBCR) programs in post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients have been demonstrated. Our aim was to assess the impact of EBCR in ≥ 70-years-old
younger post-AMI patients.
We retrospectively evaluated patients who underwent a supervised EBCR protocol, twice a week during 6-12 weeks. We evaluated changes in several outcomes based on pre- and post-CRP assessments.
Of a total of 1607 patients, 333 (21%) were ≥ 70-years-old. After the EBCR, an overall improvement on functional capacity, daily physical activity, lipid profile, body mass index, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) and C-reactive protein was observed in both younger and older patients (
< 0.05). Selleckchem RMC-7977 Older patients showed a smaller benefit on the increment of daily physical activity and lipid profile improvement, but a larger reduction in NT-pro-BNP. In the multivariate analysis, only improvements on daily physical activity and HbA1c were dependent on age.
As their younger counterparts, older patients, significantly improved functional capacity, metabolic parameters and level of daily physical activity after EBCR.
As their younger counterparts, older patients, significantly improved functional capacity, metabolic parameters and level of daily physical activity after EBCR.
To assess the aging burden of hospitalization for heart failure in Chinese populations in Macao.
The Macao Heart Failure Study consists of patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute heart failure (AHF) at Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário (the only public hospital that provides medical care for the approximately 600, 000 residents of Macao) from January 2014 to December 2016. First, we investigated the relationship between socioeconomic development and epidemiological characteristics of HF in Macao. Then we assessed the patientso clinical features and outcomes according to the age groups.
A total of 967 patients were included in the final analysis. The median age at admission was 82 years old. The advanced age at the admission of HF in Macao was significantly associated with a high-income level and the aging population structure. Marked heterogeneity existed in the epidemiological characteristics, clinical features, utilization of evidence-based therapies, short- and long-term outcomes, and ption models and multidisciplinary HF teams are urgently needed to improve the management and outcomes of hospitalized heart failure (HHF) patients.Fat traits are important in the chicken industry where there is a desire for high intramuscular fat (IMF) and low abdominal fat. However, there is limited knowledge on the relationship between the dynamic status of gene expression and the body fat deposition in chicken. Transcriptome data were obtained from breast muscle and abdominal fat of female chickens from nine developmental stages (from embryonic day 12 to hatched day 180). In total, 8,545 genes in breast muscle and 6,824 genes in abdominal fat were identified as developmentally dynamic genes. Weighted correlation network analysis was used to identify gene modules and the hub genes. Twenty-one hub genes were identified, e.g., ENSGALG00000041996, which represents a candidate for high IMF, and CREB3L1, which relates to low abdominal fat weight. The transcript factor L3MBTL1 and the transcript factor cofactors TNIP1, HAT1, and BEND6 related to both high breast muscle IMF and low abdominal fat weight. Our results provide a resource of developmental transcriptome profiles in chicken breast muscle and abdominal fat. The candidate genes can be used in the selection for increased IMF content and/or a decrease in abdominal fat weight which would contribute to the improvement of these traits.Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) and microRNAs (miRNA) are new found classes of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that are not translated into proteins but regulate various cellular and biological processes. In this study, we conducted a transcriptomic analysis of ncRNA and mRNA expression in Aohan fine wool sheep (AFWS) at different growth stages (embryonic day 90, embryonic day 120, and the day of birth), and explored their relationship with wool follicle growth. In total, 461 lncRNAs, 106 miRNAs, and 1,009 mRNAs were found to be differentially expressed during the three stages of wool follicle development. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed to clarify the roles of the differentially expressed lncRNA, miRNA, and mRNA in the different stages of wool follicle development. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to validate the results of RNA-seq analysis. lncRNA (MSTRG.223165) was found to act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) and may participate in wool follicle development by acting as an miR-21 sponge. Network prediction implicated the MSTRG.223165-miR-21-SOX6 axis in the wool follicle development. The targeting relationships of miR-21 with SOX6 and MSTRG.223165 were validated in dual-luciferase assays. This is the first report indicating the association of the lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network with wool follicle development in AFWS. This study provides new insights into the regulation of the wool follicle growth and represents a solid foundation for wool sheep breeding programs. The reliable quantification of root exudation and nutrient uptake is a very challenging task, especially when considering single root segments. Most methods used necessitate root handling e.g. root dissecting/cutting. However, there is a knowledge gap on how much these techniques affect root physiology. Thus, this study aimed at assessing the effect of different root handling techniques on the phosphate (Pi) uptake and carboxylate exudation of white lupin roots. White lupin plants were grown hydroponically in a full and Pi-deficient nutrient solution for 60 days. Phosphate uptake and carboxylate exudation of cluster and non-cluster roots were measured using custom made cells 1, 4, and 8 h after the onset of light. Three different experimental set-ups were used i) without cutting the root apparatus from the shoots, nor dissecting the root into smaller root sections - named intact plant (IP); ii) separating the roots from the shoots, without dissecting the root into smaller sections - named intact root (IR); iii) separating the roots form the shoots and dissecting the roots in different sections-named dissected roots (DR).
