Hopefully, this review will help provide a new insight into the study of the biological functions of antioxidant dipeptides.This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between green tea consumption and depression symptom risk, using subgroup analyses concerning study design, geographical region of study, adjustment factors, age, cut-off for the highest consumption category, and depression assessment methods applied. We used PubMed to search for relevant literature. The inclusion criteria were studies that (a) investigated this association as a primary or secondary outcome; (b) published in English; (c) assessed and reported hazard ratios or odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for depression symptoms, or included sufficient information to allow their calculation; (d) included at least two groups differentiated based on green tea consumption (e.g., high and low); (e) reported the prevalence of depression symptoms in each group; and (f) reported the sample size for each group. Eight articles were found to meet all criteria. The results indicated that high green tea consumption is inversely associated with depression symptoms. The pooled OR was 0.66 (95% CI 0.58-0.74), and significant heterogeneity was not observed. Subgroup analysis showed that study design impacted results (cohort study [one study] OR=0.29, 95% CI=0.04-2.14; cross-sectional study [seven studies] OR=0.66, 95% CI=0.59-0.75). These findings suggest that green tea consumption reduces the risk of depression symptoms. This association was also observed in the cohort study included, but the results in which did not reach the significant level. Therefore, further cohort studies are needed to confirm the potential causal relationship in this regard.Glaucoma is a collection of irreversible optic neuropathies which, if left untreated, lead to severe visual field loss. These diseases are a leading cause of blindness across the globe and are estimated to affect approximately 80 million people, particularly women and people of Asian descent (Quigley HA, Broman AT. 2006. Br J Ophthalmol 90 262-267). This represents a major burden on healthcare systems worldwide. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the potential of nicotinamide (vitamin B3) as a novel option in the management of glaucoma. This review aims to analyse the currently available literature to determine whether there is evidence of an association between nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and glaucomatous optic neuropathy, and whether nicotinamide has the potential to prevent or reverse these effects. The literature showed a strong connection between reduced NAD+ levels and retinal ganglion cell dysfunction through multiple different studies. There is also evidence of the positive effect of nicotinamide supplementation on retinal ganglion cell function in models of mouse glaucoma and in a study involving humans. Based on the literature findings, a recommendation has been made that more research into the efficacy, appropriate dosing, and potential side effects of nicotinamide supplementation is needed before it can be definitively determined whether it is appropriate for widespread prophylactic and therapeutic use against glaucoma in humans.We describe a case series of colonic foreign bodies in seven chinchillas. These animals had all shown complete lack of fecal output. Ultrasonography was performed in each case, revealing a hyperechoic foreign body with strong acoustic shadowing in the bowel in 6 of the 7 cases (86%). Advances in molecular genetic diagnostics have made it possible to identify new RMS subgroups within traditional morphological entities. One of these subgroups comprises rare tumors characterized by epithelioid and spindle cell morphology, highly aggressive clinical course with pronounced tendency to intraosseous growth, and the presence of pathognomonic recurring genetic aberrations- chimeric genes/transcripts EWSR1TFCP2, FUSTFCP2, or MEIS1NCOA2. Starting from 2018, only 26 reported cases of RMS have been assigned to this subgroup. The rarity of such tumors hampers their correct diagnostics for both anatomic pathologists and molecular oncologists. Here we describe a clinical case of intraosseous spindle cell RMS expressing EWSR1TFCP2 fusion gene, encountered for the first time in our practice, in a 16-year-old female patient presenting with mandibular lesion. The diagnostic process took considerable time and involved RNA sequencing; a high-throughput method of molecular genetic research. The tumor was extremely aggressive, showing resistance to polychemotherapy, radiation therapy, and crizotinib targeted therapy, with the fatal outcome.High blood glucose level and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in adolescents are long-term risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and poor prognosis. We investigated recent trends of high blood glucose levels and NAFLD among Korean adolescents aged 12-18 years. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data of 5,685 adolescents aged 12-18 years from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES), from 2007-2009 to 2016-2018. Linear trends in the prevalence of high blood glucose level, NAFLD, and associated factors were assessed using multivariable logistic regression analyses. During the study period, the odds ratios for high blood glucose level and NAFLD increased significantly in both sexes and in girls, respectively (p for trend less then 0.05). Over-consumption of total calories in boys and fat intake in boys and girls increased significantly (p for trend less then 0.05). In Korean adolescents, the prevalence of high blood glucose level and NAFLD has increased recently. Efforts to modify the associated factors and further research to determine the public health measures are warranted to prevent these metabolic abnormalities in adolescents.The clinical manifestations of idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD) are thought to be caused by an excess of inflammatory cytokines; however, the mechanism is yet to be known. In addition to IL-6, inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β and TNF-α, are noted to be elevated in iMCD, which are common in autoinflammatory diseases. The first-line treatment for iMCD is an IL-6 inhibitor. Furthermore, increases in inflammatory cytokines such as serum IL-10 and IL-23, chemokines such as CXCL13 and CXCL-10 (especially in iMCD-TAFRO), and VEGF-A have been observed, and their relationship to pathogenesis has attracted the attention of researchers. In 1980, Mori et al. proposed the concept of idiopathic plasmacytic lymphadenopathy with polyclonal hyperimmunoglobulinemia (IPL), a disease of unknown etiology, characterized by severe polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia and generalized superficial lymphadenopathy. After Frizzera et al.'s landmark report in 1983, the term multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) gradually became established, and for a time, IPL was regarded as identical to MCD. However, with the subsequent recognition of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8)-related MCD in the 1990s and the contributions by Kojima et al. in the 2000s, in which non-HHV8-related MCD (now called idiopathic MCD) was at least subclassified into IPL and others (non-IPL), it is now clear that the original distinctiveness of IPL is still maintained in MCD, which is a diverse collection of diseases.Objectives In Japanese nutrition policy, emphasis is placed on healthy food environment improvement through restaurants and other settings by prefectures and cities of cabinet order (cities). This study aimed to clarify the actual status of management implementation by prefectures and cities.Methods A mail survey of 47 prefectures and 106 cities throughout Japan was conducted in October 2020. Management implementation, including the existence of a healthy food environment improvement system (system) for restaurants and other settings, was confirmed. Local governments that had implemented the system were asked about the scope, dissemination efforts, process evaluation, and improvement of the system.Results Of the local governments that responded, 39/42 prefectures (92.9%) and 57/82 cities (69.5%) implementing the system were included in the study. A total of 84.6% of prefectures and 14.0% of cities assessed the nutrient intake of local residents within the past five years. The median number of dietitians in th to the COVID-19 pandemic is possible, in local governments that had implemented the system, few cities assessed nutrient intake, and approximately 50-70% of prefectures and cities set targets for healthy food environment improvement. While approximately 90% of each local government assessed the number of registered stores/companies, those that assessed the number of stores/companies in the entire jurisdiction as a population size were approximately 20%. Approximately 30-40% of each local government has established a renewal system.Objectives When local governments and community nurses provide support for community-based activities led by older residents, it is imperative to reduce the burden of participants in leadership positions. This study aimed to identify the issues associated with the activities by social position, such as leadership, support, and regular participation, to discuss effective support for community-based activities and to examine the association between social position, relating issues, and psychosocial health.Methods Participants in community-based activities were recruited by the local government in Tokyo, Japan. Overall, 2,367 people from 155 activity groups from 40 municipalities responded. Social positions in the groups were defined as leaders who manage activities; supporters who support leaders; and regular members who do not have any specific role. The participants chose the issues of community-based activities from 10 items. Psychosocial health was measured by the WHO-5 well-being index (WHO-5) and Lubben s0.001). The leaders and supporters showed significantly higher WHO-5 and LSNS-6 scores than regular members.Conclusion The issues that the participants reported differed by social positions in activities. It may be effective to provide support according to the difficulty of sharing issues within the group. Regardless of whether or not the participants report issues, leaders and supporters had improved psychosocial health than regular members. The study concludes that organizational position in community-based activities may offer health benefits for older adults.
