They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all Toto's original members were on stage together. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
