About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word meaning "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation which contains two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

he said composed their first and sole film score in 1984 for the film Dune. It was a huge project that required the entire group to be involved. The band continued to release their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album had a host of songs such as "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped back from the stage. This gave each member of the band the chance to pursue their individual projects. In 1996, the group was reunited to tour and release an album. It was the first time in over a decade that all the original members were together on stage.
The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared together on stage at the same time. The band broke up after this. Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all Toto's original members were on stage together. With a variety of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world beats to soul and jazz The group continues to please their fans with their anthemic arena rock.
Despite their fame the group had to face a number of setbacks in their later years. Drummer Shem von Schroeck was brought in and the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, a string of lineup changes and a string of disappointing releases prompted Toto to break up for a few years. Toto returned to touring in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to the band's top form, and the tour that accompanied it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was made more exciting by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had returned to the group.
Toto's music is as popular today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, gaining new audiences with each generation. Their success has made them a constant fixture in pop culture and their live shows are always full of energy and excitement.
